El Rasillo de Cameros

7 · The fountain

The fountain, with a circular base and a main pillar with four water pipes, is in the centre of the town to facilitate the service to all the neighbours. An acorn is represented on the top, remembering the fruit of the oaks that we can find in this area. It was built in 1882, date of great splendour of the town, as evidenced by the costly installation of a pipeline to provide water service to the neighbours.
The fountain, as a meeting point, is narrated in couplets and poems, and the young people of the place could be seen around, taking advantage of the collection of water in the heavy clay pitchers, with a capacity of up to 16 litres.
