6 · The chapel of Saint Mamés

On the outskirts of the town, on the stream that bears its name, is the chapel of Saint Mamés. This chapel, of Romanesque origin, is quoted on documents dated 1155 and has undergone several restorations until its current appearance, after the works of the last century.
It is the only chapel devoted to this martyr in La Rioja. There a many advocacies and chapels devoted to Saint Antón, as Patron of animals, but Saint Mamés is the Patron of livestock farmers and cheese makers. Its festivity is celebrated at the beginning of August and the procession shows a Saint with a pastoral staff, which recalls the transhumant tradition that was the engine of the economy and axis of life in Cameros for many years.
