Lumbreras de Cameros

7 · The Pajares marsh

It was projected as many others in the mountain area almost 100 years ago. In 1925 the first works began. In 1973, the tasks to locate the dam were taken and in 1995 the work was finished. It has capacity for 35 million cubic metres and it occupies an area of 220 hectares. It has a 68 metres high dam and its flow irrigates the lower area of the Iregua Valley.
Beneath its waters are the ruins of the village of Pajares and the Barrio de Abajo (lower neighbourhood) of Saint Andrés.
