The big game

Traditionally, the mountains of Cameros have been rich in hunting species and hunting was a common practice for its inhabitants. Thanks to the quality of its trophies, it was declared as a National Hunting Reserve in 1973, together with another 12 in Spain.
A regional figure was formed in 1998, joining the areas of the Cameros, the highlands of the Oja, Najerilla, Iregua, Leza and Cidacos Rivers that contained the 107.000 hectares of the Regional Reserve of Cameros-Demanda. The population of roebucks, deer and wild boars is important in this space.
Gallinero de Cameros has achieved excellent trophies in the hunts carried out in its area, being a very famous space among hunters, who auction the use of their territory for the winter hunts.
