It is very loved by the Cameranos, since many of their children studied in this centre. It was created in 1927 as the Charitable Asylum of Nuestra Señora del Carmen, and later it was transformed into a residence where the schoolchildren of the two Cameros lived and were trained.
Ortigosa has had a long tradition of promoting education, reaching the XIX century without illiteracy, due to the dedication of their teachers, the support of wealthy families and the transhumant activity, which needed to know “the four rules”, to leave the glens to practice their profession.
