Nestares

2 · School-Museum

The School-Museum of Nestares was opened in 2012, coinciding with the commemoration of the centenary of the construction of the building donated by Mr Gonzalo Sáenz and Rodríguez, with the aim of housing the School, the Town Hall and the Teacher’s house. This son of the village migrated to Argentina, where he made an important fortune in business and founded the Spanish Cultural Institution of Buenos Aires.
The exhibition recovers the furniture, utensils and maps, some of them from the beginning of the XX century that the Nestariegos used until 1965, when the School was definitively closed.
A large number of migrants from Cameros made donations to the different schools from their place of origin, in memory of the lessons learned in those schools and that allowed them to get ahead in their new life.
