Lumbreras de Cameros

10 · The Pineda Estate

The origin of the Brotherhood of the 13 Villas is in an area of 3,898 hectares of the municipal term of Lumbreras. It seems that the space was a royal concession that its owners defend through a Brotherhood that united all the towns of the High Iregua. The space was under the jurisdiction of a Mayor. The neighbours of the towns had the right to pastures and firewood, and Lumbreras and their villages could work an agricultural land within that ground, known as “carved Pineda”.
A house for the forest guards was built inside the farm. The use of wood and the leasing of pastures have been the sustenance of the centennial Brotherhood of the 13 Villas.
